What’s old is new again

It’s said that life is cyclical, meaning history and trends will repeat if you wait around long enough. I’m actually testing that theory with a few grunge-era flannel shirts. There hasn’t been any luck on that front, yet, but it looks like a lot of what’s happened in my career as a writer/editor is coming back around.

For example, I’m running a magazine again. While I’ve been with BNP Media for 15 years, starting out as an editor, I’ve spent the past eight or so in a corporate oversight role for editorial. But when the opportunity arose to join Food Engineering as editor-in-chief, it was too good a deal to pass up. For years, Food Engineering has been one of BNP Media’s preeminent brands with a long history of delivering the news, products and insight necessary to help our audience succeed in business. It’s a real honor to become part of that tradition.

And while I haven’t covered this industry specifically, I got my start in architecture, engineering and construction, which I’ve learned makes up a big portion of Food Engineering’s editorial. Most recently, I’ve been in the packaging space where I previously worked with Food Engineering’s former managing editor, Kristen Kazarian. I’m also getting to once again work with art director Karla Frierimonte, who was the art director at the very first publication I wrote for some 22 years ago (I’m betting she thinks I forgot).

And as you can probably tell, there have been a lot of changes here. There are still more to come. The biggest change you’ll notice is with the content delivery. We know there’s a shortage of employees out there, and part of our mission is to serve the industry by showing potential workers what the food and beverage manufacturing market has to offer. While we will always write articles, everyone knows that the kids these days like the videos. So, expect to see more of those produced as well as more podcasts as part of our efforts to bring in new blood.

I’d love to hear from you and to hear what you’re working on to maybe share that with our audience. Plus, selfishly speaking, I have to develop a list of contacts. So, please reach out if for no other reason than to say “Hi.” I’m looking forward to this new, old adventure. FE
