100% Recyclable, Biodegradable and Compostable Paper Pouch
SunDance USA, introduced new paper pouch packaging that the company says is 100% recyclable, biodegradable and compostable. This latest flexible packaging option from SunDance combines fiber strength with a green profile and consumer-friendly features. For example, fiber or paper mesh windows can be added to the front, back or sides of the paper pouch to offer views of the product inside. These unique windows also provide ventilation for products requiring it, such as certain grocery produce. The seams of the paper pouch are secured with a unique heat-sealable adhesive that is also recyclable and compostable.

Mondi in partnership with Fiorini International announced the successful creation and launch of a new fully recyclable paper packaging for a premium Italian pasta brand. The paper bag design for Antico Pastificio Umbro has a large window made of transparent, recyclable and biodegradable cellulose that allows the end user to see the contents. The bag is fully recyclable while offering the same protective properties as the previous plastic packaging. The pasta has the same shelf life and is kept safe during transport. A new closure system sealed with a special food contact hot-melt glue, together with a reinforced patch on the bottom, improves hygiene and ensures easy opening.

Post-Consumer Recycled Film Laminate Made from 83% Recycled Materials
Grounded Packaging announced the launch of RE: MONO, a recyclable, flexible packaging solution made of 83% recycled materials. RE: MONO is designed to offer food manufacturers a sustainable alternative packaging solution to traditional products that are often non-recyclable and end up in landfills and the environment. Grounded’s new material was born from the idea to design an innovative packaging product that limits environmental impact, while still prioritizing functionality, convenience and food safety. To achieve this, Grounded’s post-consumer recycled film laminate is made from disposed plastic from recycling streams, such as milk bottles and plastic bags.

Eco-Products’ compostable wrap is designed for swaddling sandwiches, snacks and more. The grease- and moisture-resistant wrap is made from wax paper, is ASTM D6868 compliant and is certified by the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI) as compostable in commercial facilities. It works as a basket liner, food wrap or as a scale or pick-up sheet. Jointly developed with Eco-Products’ parent company, Novolex, the new wrap works with both hot and cold snacks and sandwiches and features Eco-Products and BPI logos, assuring customers that the product is made from sustainable materials and can be to put into the compost bin after use.
